Free Windows Antivirus for Non-Commercial Users

I have been recommending the free versions of either AVG or Avast antivirus to my residential / non-commercial clients for years. Both of them are extremely capable of blocking virus attacks and detecting any existing viruses and removing them.

The problem with paid antivirus or all-in-one security software for home users is that they have too many features and can cause problems especially with networks and internet access. Most home users are not trained in how to use these features and I am constantly getting calls from new clients that have issues caused by these aspects (mainly firewalls) of these software programs. My personal belief is that firewalls should only be used if someone is an expert in their use or if they are installed on business computers that are managed by an IT person.

I personally use Avast free antivirus on my home computers and AVG paid antivirus on my business computers.  If you own a business and need help managing security or sourcing antivirus software I’d be happy to talk with you about your options.

Thanks,
